  • 01/13/13--15:33: DevMeet at Denver Comi-con?
  • It's year two of the Denver Comi-con and Stan Lee is showing up. I'm certainly going, and I'm considering organizing a devMeet there! Who's interested?

    Journal
I've been toying with the idea of organizing a Colorado devMeet for awhile now, but due to being crazy busy I haven't actually done so. But then I heard that the awesome Stan Lee is attending Denver Comi-con, which reminded me that Denver does in fact have a comi-con now. And if Stan Lee is showing up, you know it's gonna be a damn good con!

The con is at The Denver Convention Center from Friday May 31st-June 2nd and the site for the con is here: http://www.denvercomiccon.com/2013/

Nothing is set in stone yet, but I'm certainly going (and possibly volunteering) to the con, so I figured it would be a great time to have a local devMee

Yep. I'm just slightly obsessed with this band. Not much else to say, since it's pretty much all up there in that essay.

    My Twitter: [link]
    My Tumblr: [link]

All of you go listen to BVB's new album Wretched & Divine right now! Even if you've never listened to them before, or if you have and you didn't really like them, give this album a shot. It's got some fucking amazing music.

    ***Beware, here be spoilers!***

So, most of you who know of me in relation to Black Veil Brides probably know me as that one artist chick who won the Church of the Wild Ones Tour Poster contest, if you know me at all. (If not, feel free to come stalk my tumblr and Twitter. You’ve obviously already found my deviantART.) It’s pretty safe to say that I love drawing and painting BVB. I just can’t resist drawing that much sex appeal over and over again.
I’m also a sucker for symbolism. I am one of those people who spends 99% of their life doing shit for a very specific reason. (You know that whole bit about the author mak

  • 09/29/12--20:30: The Demon's Lexicon
  • I'm having a very productive weekend and it's awesome.

Anyways, these are the four main characters from Sarah Reese Brennan's book The Demon's Lexicon which is an awesome book. I've only read that one, and the start of the next book in the series, but I'm loving the series so much! We've got Nick on the bottom, Alan with the gun, May dancing and Jamie on the top. Originally this picture was just Nick, but then I decided to add Alan and then it felt unbalanced so I just decided to do all four of them. I only have the audio books right now though, so I couldn't flip back through to find character descriptions and had to just go on what I remembered of them, so if I got something wrong don't hesitate to point it out to me!

This piece was super fun to do, and I'm really happy with how it came out. I may go back and add some color later. We shall see.

All feedback is welcomed and appreciated, and I highly recommend reading Sarah's work!

  • 10/07/12--23:35: Ben Reference Sheet
  • I've been wanting to do an emotion chart for my character Ben for awhile now mostly because he has the fun characteristic of hair and eyes that change color with his mood. I decided to just go ahead and do a full reference sheet though, just for fun.

Ben is one of my OC's from The Mortal Instruments series. He is part shadowhunter, part fey, and part mundane. Because he is only 1/4 shadowhunter he doesn't handle runes well and thus doesn't have more than a couple permanent ones. He's a very spunky, happy little guy and is extremely fond of color.

Also, the outfit he's wearing in the front view is based off of a hobo I saw on the bus home the other day... Well. Not the pants, but the rest is. He was a very interesting hobo.

Anyways, tell me what you think please! I had a lot of fun with this, but it did do some things outside my comfort zone, especially the emotions, so I'd really appreciate some in depth critique!

Despite what you may believe, (and what some of the staff may themselves believe ;) ) This site is not run by a bunch of magical wizards. They're human, sleep deprived and probably hyped on coffee or other such beverages, but human none the less. They can't wave a magic wand and fix every issue you're having right when you have it. They can't wave a magic wand and make an amazing new feature that works great right off the bat. It takes a lot of time and effort to do the things they do. And not only do they do these amazing things, they actually talk to the members about it. They post journals and ask for feedback and work with that feedback.

  • 12/21/12--18:58: Christmas Shenanigans
  • A Christmas present for my buddies ~AkiraShikigami and ~LectorValdesh of their OCs Oberon (bottom) and Bishop. I had a lot of fun with this piece, and it's the first piece in ages I did 100% reference free which made me very happy.

Poor Oberon is just trying to grade papers and Bishop is about to be incredibly distracting.

    Happy Holidays everyone!

I broke it and I don't know how the hell how. Any Advice?

    Journal
Okay, so I am incredibly confused at the moment. The electricity has gone out in my room, but ONLY my room. It still works fine in my sister's room which is on the same circuit. We even have have an outlet that is in the exact same place on our shared wall, but it only works on her side. All the outlets in my room don't work, but everything in the house is fine. We reset every single breaker in the house twice and the rest of the house is fine, but my room still refuses to work.

Any advice? I want my room back...

  • 01/18/13--20:09: Prints Page Redesign
  • I hardly ever look at my prints tab on my gallery, mostly because I really don't have any prints up here. I decided to take a look at it today and I was kind of surprised by how terrible the thing looks. It's a version or two behind the rest of the site, has very little choice in widgets or organization, some of the widgets lack extremely basic functionality (take a look at how the "Awards" widget up there doesn't let you link to things! I only noticed this after I finished the layout though, so I didn't go back and fix it in this).

So I decided to do a quick redesign. I'd really like to see the prints page updated in these ways:
    1) Have a three column layout with the informational widgets (such as Awards, Education, Shop Info, custom boxes, etc.) in the right hand column, and the center and left columns would contain all other widgets and custom boxes.) If the user chooses not to use the left or center column, the widgets in the one that is being used of the two will stretch, resulting in a large main column and a thin right column.
    2) Be laid out more like the profile page, with galleries for the prints rather then having them all displayed on on page with paging options right there (and not bounded by a box).
    3) Allow us to put the commissions widget on this page, as well as a widget showcasing our premium content.
    4) Rename the "Prints" tab to "Shop".
    5) Also, and not just for this widget, I would love to see the premium content gem symbol used in the same way that the prints icon is used to denote prints.

Basically, since dA is moving towards a more seller friendly environment I would like to see the Prints tab updated to reflect this and to showcase all our sell-able content in one convenient area, rather than having it clutter up our pages with long widgets like the commissions widget.

Thoughts? Is there something that you think would be beneficial to see added to the prints page? Would you like to see a layout like this? (Also, I understand that some people aren't happy with the whole 20% cut thing. This redesign has nothing to do with that though, it's just a concept of a better layout for the prints page that would include those widgets. Even if you don't like them, I would appreciate your feedback on just the layout, not what the widgets do since this suggestion isn't related to that.)

  • 01/22/13--14:10: The Wild Ones
  • Some new characters for a Black Veil Brides based project. They're all named for famous literary characters. Also, Jane and David's last name is given for a BVB related reason. Anyone want to guess what it is?

I have always liked this newer system, ever since it came out. It's got so much great functionality that the old page didn't have, though some could still use a little tweaking.

A breakdown on how to leave constructive feedback on new features and how to handle bugs in new features without leaving rage comments that don't help anyone.

    :iconKatara-alchemist:
    :devkatara-alchemist:

So once again we have a brand new feature that has been released to everyone, and a lot of people are up in arms about it. This is more than understandable, the system is buggy and it doesn't work quite right for everyone. But for many people it does work well, and many people do like it. They don't speak up though, because they are happy with it so they don't have as much reason to speak up as the people who are having problems.

Think about the last ten products you bought that you liked and worked well, did you contact the company that made it or leave a review on their website or something of

I've gotten a lot of questions about RMCAD lately, so here's a quick FAQ I've put together.

    Journal
Lately I have had several people asking me my opinions on RMCAD, so I decided to just put up a journal answering the most common questions I get about the college. If you're interested in the college and have a question that isn't answered here feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer! I'll keep this journal up to date as I get more questions.

How are you paying for the college?
Scholarships, loans, and grants. RMCAD has multiple in house scholarships, some which cover a big chunk of the tuition, and lots of smaller ones as well. I've also gotten some free government aid through FAFSA, and then I've got loans covering the rest.

  • 02/05/13--14:56: Figure Drawing Muscle Study
  • A piece from my figure drawing two class at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design.

The school paid for a body painter to come in and paint the muscular system on the body of the model. The actual model was completely covered, he basically looked like something from posemaniacs.com. It was cool to look at, but it wasn't all that helpful for learning the muscles (which, according to my teacher was the point of having the body painter come in). The problem with the body painting was that it was a very simplified version of the muscular system, and some areas they just painted red and called it good. I only used the model as a reference for the pose for this piece, and then referenced the muscles from my various anatomy books. I also decided to do a ribbon of the muscular system around the model, rather then completely covering him, because it seemed much more compositionally interesting than just covering the whole model.

All in all I'm pretty happy with this piece. It was a fun experiment and very challenging. (Why do most Anatomy books only provide lateral views of the outer side of the limbs?! :shakefist: ) If I've screwed up any of the anatomy please don't hesitate to tell me!

  • And now that that madness is taken care of, I'm back!

    Journal
    Again. XD
This time I'm living in my own apartment though, which is so nice given that my sister is just getting into the bratty teen "I'm right and everyone is wrong now bow down and kiss my boots" stage of existance. It's a great little one bedroom apartment within ten minutes walking distance from my college. My cat is still a little unsure of the whole endeavor, but she's adjusting. (Her adjusting has consisted of learning to climb the ladder on my bunk bed so she can hide on the top bunk. I have yet to SEE her do this, but she is getting up there somehow...)
Moving is why I've been gone from the site for a couple days as well, s
