I hardly ever look at my prints tab on my gallery, mostly because I really don't have any prints up here. I decided to take a look at it today and I was kind of surprised by how terrible the thing looks. It's a version or two behind the rest of the site, has very little choice in widgets or organization, some of the widgets lack extremely basic functionality (take a look at how the "Awards" widget up there doesn't let you link to things! I only noticed this after I finished the layout though, so I didn't go back and fix it in this).
So I decided to do a quick redesign. I'd really like to see the prints page updated in these ways:
1) Have a three column layout with the informational widgets (such as Awards, Education, Shop Info, custom boxes, etc.) in the right hand column, and the center and left columns would contain all other widgets and custom boxes.) If the user chooses not to use the left or center column, the widgets in the one that is being used of the two will stretch, resulting in a large main column and a thin right column.
2) Be laid out more like the profile page, with galleries for the prints rather then having them all displayed on on page with paging options right there (and not bounded by a box).
3) Allow us to put the commissions widget on this page, as well as a widget showcasing our premium content.
4) Rename the "Prints" tab to "Shop".
5) Also, and not just for this widget, I would love to see the premium content gem symbol used in the same way that the prints icon is used to denote prints.
Basically, since dA is moving towards a more seller friendly environment I would like to see the Prints tab updated to reflect this and to showcase all our sell-able content in one convenient area, rather than having it clutter up our pages with long widgets like the commissions widget.
Thoughts? Is there something that you think would be beneficial to see added to the prints page? Would you like to see a layout like this? (Also, I understand that some people aren't happy with the whole 20% cut thing. This redesign has nothing to do with that though, it's just a concept of a better layout for the prints page that would include those widgets. Even if you don't like them, I would appreciate your feedback on just the layout, not what the widgets do since this suggestion isn't related to that.)
