It. Is. DONE.
One of my resolutions this year was to do at least one big, finished illustration per month. I figure it is much more reasonable than than doing a daily or even weekly challenge for me since its a lot easier to fit it into my schedule this way.
So! For January we’ve got Ronan Lynch dreaming in Cabeswater. I really wanted to encapsulate this idea of him being sort of entangled in the forest and bringing things to life from it as he dreams. I tried to include a lot of the different things he’s dreamed and I tossed in maggie-stiefvater's license plate as well just for fun because Ronan never dreamed up Kavinsky's plate (well, not that we know of. Who knows what all got dreamed up in that lot full of cars).
Let me tell you it was an incredible struggle not to make this thing stupidly long and have Blue, Adam, and Gansey placed around it each in their own little “level” as well. But, for one thing, a piece that stupidly long would’ve been annoying. For another I never would’ve finished by the end of January. So! I might just do a series of paintings like this with one for each of them. We’ll see how time constraints and inspiration feel about that plan though.
I listened to “Devil’s Backbone” by The Civil Wars on a loop while drawing this. It is my perfect Gansey/Ronan bromance song. Seriously. Go listen to it and tell me it doesn’t make you think of those two.
