  • This is an aqueduct built by the Roman's in the south of France. We were there at sunset, so the lighting was amazing. The structure was HUGE and according to our tour guide there is no bonding agent between the bricks, they're cut in such a way that they hold themselves together.

This is another of those photos that I didn't realize I had until I got home and looked through them, and another one that I have since fallen in love with. The smooth water and the awesome shadow of such an old structure are awesome, in my opinion.

  • 04/26/12--18:31: Me at the Louvre
  • Me at the Louvre Museum in France. My friend took the photo as we were waiting to go inside. The line was huge, but we actually got in pretty quick. Then we went back out for lunch and couldn't get back in because there was a bomb threat and soldiers everywhere. It was an interesting day. :XD: The museum was pretty cool, but I didn't actually see much of the art because it was so insanely busy.

  • This is a photo of Paris at night from the Sine River. We went on a cruise around Notre Dame to see all the famous bridges. I know this isn't the best photo (my camera has serious issues with anything darker than sunlight) but I'm still very fond of it.

  • 04/27/12--18:27: Unbroken
  • Yep, more Black Veil Brides. This one is for a contest being hosted by BVB Fan relations (info on the contest can be found here: [link]). The contest was to show the Black Veil Brides and Marvel Avengers together since BVB has a new song coming out on the Avengers soundtrack called "Unbroken". (And the song is fucking awesome, I can't stop listening to it.) I decided to do something a little different then showing all of them together literally (because there's no way I'm doing a picture with 10+ people in it. :XD: ) and decided to represent the Avengers in the instruments and outfits worn by the band members. Not sure if it fits with in the guidelines of the contest, but I don't really care since it was a lot of fun.

There was some reasoning to what member got what Avenger for some of them, and not for others. Ashley got Iron Man since they're both notorious and extremely loveable playboys. CC got Thor since a hammer and drums correlate well in my mind yes, CC's drumstick is a mini hammer of Thor. I really am that much of a dork. Jinxx got Hawkeye since Hawkeye grew up in the circus and Jinxx's make-up reminds me of a mime. Then Andy and Jake got Captain America and The Hulk respectively because that's what was left aside from Nick Fury and Black Widow. But I figured CA and TH were easier to turn into instruments/recognizable outfits.

This project was a really fun experiment because I had to do a lot of research on the characters to try and turn them into recognizable instruments (or in Andy's case, an outfit, since he doesn't have an instrument). I also had to play with Andy a lot, since he cut his freaking hair again and we don't have any good references of more than the front of it. (Don't get me wrong, I don't mind his new hair, but every time I draw him I draw it one way and then it's different a week or two later. :XD: Makes things complicated since I hate not being accurate.)

Yes, I realize Andy looks like he wants to eat someone or something. Not sure why, but it amuses me since it's usually CC who looks legitimately insane and he just looks like he's having a totally good time. Also, I didn't include the tattoo sleeves that they boys have since it's so hard to find good refs of them in their entirety. I tried to give them each their big, main tats though. And I included the fire, since it seems to be a common theme with them. :XD:

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this. I know the shading is simple compared to a lot of my stuff, but that's mostly because of the contest deadline and the fact that I'm so busy with school right now.

Please tell me what you think! Like it? Love it? Hate it? Tell me why! See something that you think needs fixed? Tell me!

  • Don't worry, no spoilers will be mentioned in this journal!

Now then. If you have read it, please note me so we can scream and cry together. Even Clockwork Prince didn't get me this wound up, and I didn't get over that one for days.

If anyone posts spoilers in the comments, your comment will be hidden!

So some of you will probably remember this piece I did featuring the Black Veil Brides and The Avengers [link] . Well, I had a ton of fun trying to find ways to turn the Avengers into recognizable instruments/clothes, and I wanted to do some more work with that type of thing. So I decided to do some T-shirt concepts that encapsulated each of the members in the band (as well as a couple others that I've had ideas about for awhile, the two in the top left corner specifically). It was extremely fun as well as challenging.

The hardest one was probably Andy due to the fact that he wears so little make-up now. I don't mind that he doesn't, but it made it difficult to make a recognizable t-shirt that showed him since I was basing them on the different make-ups of the boys. I also couldn't find a good way to do their splattery/smudgy make-up without it looking off. Overall though, I'm really happy with how they came out and this was a lot of fun and a good challenge. When I have enough money, I may make myself some of these.

So today it was announced that subscribed members of the site can change their username! If you'd like to know more, the full article can be found here: http://my.deviantart.com/messages/#/d501d7u

This change has resulted in a lot of frustration for non-premium members who wish to change their names, however. So I have decided to hold a little contest. I will be giving away two one month premium memberships to deviants who wish to change their username but can't!

  • 05/22/12--13:41: Done with highschool!

  • Well, okay, I've been done for about a week, actually. But it has been a crazy busy week and this is the first time I've had to sit down and put together a journal about it.

So yes, I'm done with highschool! (Thank god, because I was getting so fed up with the school that I was about ready to just stop going since I already had all my credits a semester ago.) But anyhow, I'm on summer break now and I'll be going to Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in the fall to study Illustration, which will be awesome amounts of fun. (Hopefully. :XD:)

I plan to make the most of this summer as well. I've already been up to Cheyenne Wyoming for the

It's the 24th, time to announce the ELEVEN! winners of my username change contest that I started a week ago when the ability to change usernames was first announced. You can read about the contest here: http://katara-alchemist.deviantart.com/journal/?offset=1#/d50586h

I never expected this contest to be as popular as it ended up being, so I am extremely grateful to the lovely deviants who donated points and subscriptions so that we could give away eleven one month subs instead of the measly two I'd planned on! You guys rock!

    Now, on to our winners:
    1. :devpapibo-piskot: will receive a one month subscription from me.

So some of you may have seen my "Current Projects Progress" widget on my profile page. (If not, go to my page and scroll down a little, it's on the left side.) I'm very fond of the widget, but it's a pain to set up due to having to embed each deviation from stash since we can't use thumbs from stash, and then there's the coding for all the boxes and titles and yada yada yada. So I decided to make a mockup of a real version of this widget, where everything is already set up and all you have to do is set up a few easy options.

With this you would be able to easily create and track different projects through stashed deviations. The widget would be accessible by both premium and regular members, but premium members would be able to have up to four projects shown while regular members could only have up to two.

I think this is something that a lot of people would find very useful. Many people already clutter their galleries with progress shots of their different projects, this widget would get rid of some of that gallery clutter while still allowing the artist to showcase what they're working on and how far along those projects are.

So, what do you guys think? Would you use it? Why? Why not? Is there something you think could make it better? Even if you hate it, tell me!
