Alright, so, as you guys have probably noticed I haven't been around as much lately. The main reason for this is that I've been having a very difficult year emotionally. The biggest reason for this is my mother. There's really no need to go into detail with it, but we have a very unhealthy relationship due to her inability to show me any respect or trust. Today we had another fight over something that was admittedly very minor, but it was the final straw for me. She is not a healthy person for me to be in any sort of relationship with and despite all my attempts to try and fix things, things haven't gotten better.

    Because of the incident tod

I don't like 'em. However, I don't hate them either, but I think the only way I could get used to them is if a few changes are made.

They need to be faded so they are less distracting. Right now they're so dark your eye is instantly drawn to them instead of the name. (Yes, you can install scripts to fix this but this only effects how YOU see it, not how everyone else on deviantART who doesn't have the script sees it.)

They need to be smaller. This is basically the same as the issue above. The new symbols are huge and distracting.

Move the symbols back to the left. Now, I THINK them being on the right probably has something to do with codin

AKA I dragged my sister over to deviantART since she doesn't have an account, has never had one, and thus is about as "new" as you can get. I wanted to get her thoughts on the new symbols because of that. (This is in fact my general method for testing anything that deviantART claims to be doing for the sake of new users. My sister puts up with it pretty well. She might think I'm a bit nuts though.) I  linked her a chain of comments and told her to tell me what she thought of the symbols next to names.

    Here's her response from skype:
    Annana: They're cute.
Kat: Any thoughts on what they represent?
    Annana: Errrr....that you're all wonderful

  • 10/12/13--20:34: Society6

  • Hey guys, I have opened a society6 store to help with finances. I know I don't make much off of society6, but every dollar helps and it's passive income which is incredibly helpful. If you could take a look, and at least share some stuff from it I would greatly appreciate it! There's a variety of prints, iphone/ipad cases and skins, laptop skins, pillows, clothing, and more available.

I have posted my original art, my original photography, and several fan works that I have permission to post from awesome sweet people. Here's a few of the things in the shop, with more to come:

  • 10/21/13--13:59: Job Acquired!

  • :la: Finally got a job. It's a work study in my college's marketing department. And since it's at my college, that means no commute! I am a happy girl, even if it's only part-time minimum wage.

  • 11/02/13--20:52: Motivation tricks?

  • Okay, I cave. Anyone got any tricks for motivation? Because I can't motivate myself for my Art History Class for shit. It's mostly because the entire first half of the semester was royally screwed up and thus I lost total faith in the class and the teacher. (There's a really long, rambling story to go with this, but essentially the teacher wasn't teaching at all. No feedback was given, no interaction, nothing. This has been fixed by administration now, but it's to little to late for various reasons.)

The class is online and entirely essay based with a huge amount of reading every week. I've tried every motivational trick I know of. Candy, mu

Hey guys, just wanted to stop in and give some updates.

First off, thanks for all the well wishes now that my term as a volunteer is up. It was a great year, I just wish I could've done more! (Join the volunteer team during your first year of college, Katara. There's no chances of that crashing and burning, Katara. Ha.)

I have had a REALLY long year, and not in a good way. I've had a falling out with my mother to the point we barely speak, my grandfather is dying, the other has already passed away, and my college has screwed me ten ways to Sunday. You know, the usual stuff.

All of this has had me really antsy. "Get on a flight to Paris at

  • 01/18/14--12:07: How did that even happen?

  • I decided to do a little cleaning out of various bits of deviantART today and I started off with my groups list. I went through it and left a lot of groups that are dead or that I just don't care about anymore. Then I discovered something. I am apparently the founder of :devFCDB:. Now, this was a group I was asked to be a contributor in several months ago, but I have no freaking clue how I ended up the founder of the thing. There's no correspondence messages in my inbox asking to approve the change or anything, I checked. I would think that, even if you didn't have to approve being made the founder of a group, you would at least be notified.

It was someone’s baby once, but then someone took it apart and put it back together wrong.” Adam told them, “And yes, I brought my cables. I’ll meet you at your car.” He veered off to the other side of the parking lot to get his jeep as Erin, Mellisa, and Devon continued on to Erin’s car.
“Oh wow. I can see what Adam means.” Mellisa said when she caught sight of the vehicle. “Wait…are those actual stitches holding the bumper on?”

  • 01/19/14--18:05: Ronan Watercolor
  • Two pieces of art in as many days? What is this strange madness?!

Any-who. Here's Ronan from The Raven Boys. I think I did about ten different versions of his back tattoo and I'm still not totally happy with the one I came up with. I mean, I love how it looks, but it isn't quite what I pictured when I was reading.

Aside from his tattoo, his design was heavily based on CassandraJean's interpretation of the character because it's just perfect.

And yes, his ass his hanging out. No, there's really no reason for that aside from me wanting to draw a bit of his ass. Don't judge.

  • 01/29/14--09:44: Street Bat
  • I'm both happy and unhappy with this piece. It was my first time working on clayboard, a medium I have discovered that I really like, and I think this came out good for a first attempt with the medium, especially since I was a bit rushed as this is a school project. However it also feels a bit...IDK, sloppy? Unpolished? I do like the general picture though, and I'll probably turn it into a digital painting one of these days.

Medium: Pen and Ink on Clayboard (scratchboard). Text added in Photoshop.

  • 01/29/14--10:19: Helen and Shae
  • This features my characters Helen (on the left) and Shae. Both are characters in my new novel concept that I'm working on.

I hate pencil. So damn much. I have yet to discover a medium I hate more. But we had to use pencil for this project (since this was done for one of my college classes). Colored pencils are a little better, but I still don't like them much either.

Also, the scanner BUTCHERED this. But I don't particularly care since I'm going to turn this into a painting as well when I get the chance.

Yes, I am well aware that the perspective on the makeup table is way off. Shhh....I'll fix it later.

Media: Mechanical pencil, 6B pencil, Bristol Smooth paper
    Time: 15+ hours

  • Because sometimes you need someone to hold down, and sometimes I need someone to hold me down.

Have some Adam and Ronan from "The Raven Cycle" by Maggie Stiefvater! I’ve been led to believe that their ship name is Rodam? IDK. But I like them. A lot.

I drew this listening to “Youth and Whiskey” by Black Veil Brides.

  • 02/09/14--20:10: Denver Comic-Con 2014

  • Who else is going? I just got my tickets. I wasn't sure if I was going to go this year since I was possibly going to move out of Denver just before the Con, but plans have shifted a bit so I caved and got tickets. Three day passes are $50 and one day passes haven't gone on sale just yet.

I don't think I'm going to host an actual dev-meet this year since I don't have the time to plan it, and I may have to do some stuff with my college since they always have a booth and I've gotten to be friends with the lady who runs such things, but if anyone wants to meet up I'd love to meet you guys! Just shoot me a note and we'll work something out.
